Driving Assessment

Patient Driving a CarWe offer a comprehensive driving assessment program for anyone who has had an illness, injury or age-related decline in skills that could affect the ability to drive safely. Our services are provided by a certified driver rehabilitation specialist and includes both a clinical and an in-car assessment.

The clinical assessment screens skills that are important for competent driving and include:

  • Visual skills
  • Cognitive skills
  • Physical skills
  • Physical and mental reaction skills
  • Interpretation of road signs

The in-car assessment evaluates driving skills, application of traffic rules and regulations, adaptive equipment needs and independence in the community. For novice drivers, the in-car assessment evaluates their potential to learn the skills necessary for driving.

At the conclusion of the driving assessment, recommendations are made to meet a client’s needs. Possible recommendations include:

  • Return to independent driving
