Even a slight hearing loss can interfere with conversational speech in everyday listening situations. Our Adult Audiology Department provides comprehensive audiology services including evaluation, management, prevention of hearing loss and the rehabilitation of persons with hearing impairment.

An audiology evaluation should be explored if an adult:

  • Thinks others “mumble”
  • Asks to repeat what has been said
  • Watches other people’s faces intently when listening to them speak
  • Has difficulty following the conversation
  • Has increased difficulty hearing in the presence of background noise
  • Realizes that the effort to hear leaves him or her irritated and tired
  • Notices a sudden change in hearing
  • Experiences ear infections, ringing in the ears or dizziness

Our audiology services include:

  • Audiological evaluation
  • Videonystagmography (VNG) testing – A technology for testing inner ear and central motor functions which involves the use of infrared goggles to trace eye movements during visual stimulation and positional changes
  • Central auditory processing disorders (CAPD) assessment – Special tests designed to assess the various auditory functions of the brain.
  • Middle ear analysis (tympanometry)
