Driving Assessment
Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital offers a comprehensive Driving Assessment Program for people who have had an illness, injury or a decline in skills that could affect one's ability to drive safely.
The Driving Assessment Program consists of a Pre-Driving Screening and an In-Car Driving Evaluation.
Pre-Driving Screening: an in-clinic evaluation administered by an occupational therapist. The assessment includes a screen of
- Visual skills
- Physical skills
- Reaction time
- Interpretation of road signs
- Interpretation of traffic rules
Following the Pre-Driving Screening, appropriate recommendations will be made to the individual and their referring physician.
In-Car Driving Evaluation is completed on the road with a certified adaptive driving instructor and an occupational therapist. Possible recommendations after the In-Car Driving Evaluation may include:
- Return to independent driving
- Follow-up driver training sessions to improve driving skills and training in use of adaptive equipment as indicated
- The person is not safe to drive
A physician's referral is necessary for the Driving Assessment Program. To schedule an appointment, please call the Northeast Rehab Hospital Outpatient Department at 603-893-2900. For more information about the program, please call the Outpatient Occupational Therapy Department at 603-893-2900.
