Johanna Metthe

Johanna has been with us for 22 years and wanted to share her experience as she has progressed through her career.

My career at Northeast Rehab started when I had just accepted a job working for Bengston Cannon Physical Therapy.  I had been working as an Information Specialist for them for about a week when I was told that Northeast Rehab would be acquiring them.  I have to say I was very nervous as I had only been with them for a week when this happened and it presented a lot of uncertainties.  I had a child who was nearly 4 year old, so my job was extremely important to me.

The weeks and months went by and I was really liking my job.  There was a lot to learn but I was up for the challenge.   As time went on, I was offered new job opportunities internally.  My first career move was to support the VP of OP Operations as his secretary and oversee the other information specialist.  I enjoyed this job a lot because I liked making positive changes that helped the organization.  Once computers started to be added to the workplace, there was a need for a Help Desk.  I applied for the position and was hired!  I had been taking computer classes at this point, so I was looking forward to learning more and applying what I had learned at school.

As I started the new position of Help Desk Specialist, I realized how much I liked what I was doing and also the people I was working with.  I also enjoyed traveling to the outpatient sites to resolve issues that couldn’t be handled over the phone.  Most of what I have learned has been through the hands on approach.  I love working in the IT Department because every day there is something new.

What are a few of the benefits of working here?

One benefit of working here is that I get to work with so many great people. These are the same people from whom I continue learn.  They have become my family.  So when a couple years ago I went through a very hard time with a family loss, I truly felt like I had family here.  They reached out to me and made me feel loved like a family member not just co-workers.

Another benefit would be the encouragement to learn.  With each position I have held, I was given the opportunity to further my learning and work my way up.  The reason this has happened is that management recognized my hard work, allowed me to have a voice and show them what I am capable of.  I am proud of how far I have come but it would not have been possible without the people at Northeast Rehab.

Recently, I was promoted from Senior Network Administrator  to Customer Service Manager and am enjoying my new role.  Now I manage  two staff members oversee the entire customer service/ help desk ticketing system and workflow.

What do you like most about your job?

I love that my job touches just about every employee, this means that I get to interact with everyone on a daily basis and get to know them very well.  The fact that I am always learning something new makes me look forward to coming in each day.

Would you refer a friend to work here?  If so, why?

Absolutely, this is a great place to work!
