Pelvic Floor Therapy
Having a child experience difficulty with bowel/bladder control can be an emotional situation for both the parent and child. It is often difficult to understand the dysfunction as a parent and frustrating not knowing how to help. Children are often left feeling shame and embarrassment, which can sometimes lead to behavioral changes.
Northeast Rehab’s Pediatric Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Program is a non-invasive approach designed for children who continue to have episodes of urinary leaks and/or bowel incontinence beyond the typical age of potty training.
Our individualized treatment approach helps children achieve and/or improve independent bladder and bowel control. Children gain an understanding of their anatomy, bladder/bowl systems and diet. They will also gain improved self-esteem, confidence and the increased ability to participate in social activities.
Conditions we treat include:
- Incontinence of bladder and/or bowel
- Enuresis / bedwetting
- Bladder urgency and frequency
- Infrequent urination
- Urinary retention
- Constipation
- Pain in pelvic and/or abdominal area
Treatment may include:
- Pelvic floor muscle activation and/or relaxation
- Bladder and bowel re-training
- Behavioral and diet modification
- Soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release
- Biofeedback
- Nervous system regulation
- Home exercise program
The physical therapists and occupational therapists at Northeast Rehab work closely with the child, parents, and physician to progress the child toward success!
